Achieving High Rank Down in Texas

On April 27, 2019, at the South Texas AAU District Championships in San Antonio, Texas, Grand Master Leo Martinez, owner of Korea America Taekwondo Academy, was presented with his 9th Degree Black Belt. On April 27, 2019, at the South Texas AAU District Championships in San Antonio, Texas, Grand Master Leo Martinez, owner of Korea America Taekwondo Academy, was presented with his 9th Degree Black Belt. This honor was bestowed upon him by Grand Master Mark Giambi, 9th Dan and Director of the AAU Dan Certification program.
Grand Master Martinez began his martial arts training in 1968 in Austin, Texas. In addition to Taekwondo, Grand Master Martinez trained in the arts of Soryu Karate, Kumdo and Hapkido. Also, he is a retired U.S. Army and U.S. Airforce military veteran who served his country proudly for 25 years. On May 4, 2019, at the Gulf AAU District Championships in Houston, Texas, two additional high rank certificates were presented by Grand Master Giambi. A black belt certificate was presented to Master Joseph Ellis for 6th Dan. Master Ellis is a head instructor at American Kid Athletics in Katy, Texas. He began his martial arts training in 1993 with Master Leb Kemp, and is still currently training under Master Kemp.
Master Joseph Ellis has participated in and won, several AAU National Championships and the AAU Junior Olympic Games. He is a long-standing member of the AAU Taekwondo Referee core and holds a AA ranking. Congratulations Master Ellis on achieving your 6th Dan and the highest ranking of a National Referee.
In addition, Master Alex Segura was awarded the rank of 5th Dan. Master Segura began his martial arts training in 1969, in Austin, Texas. He earned his 1st Dan in the art of Tang Soo Do/Mu do Kwan in 1985 under Master Ki Yol Yu in Houston, Texas. Master Segura is currently an A ranked referee for AAU. Taekwondo as well as the chief instructor for AAU referee clinics in the Gulf region. Master Segura teaches Taekwondo at Hero Martial Arts with Grand Master Josh Arcemont in Spring, Texas. Congratulations Master Segura on achieving your 5th Dan.
